We own and operate eight nuclear power stations in the UK.  Hartlepool power station is one of advanced gas-cooled reactor (AGR) power stations and is capable of generating 1210MW of electricity – the equivalent of supplying 1.5 million homes.
 
Applications are invited for the above positions within the Operations Services Department at Hartlepool Power Station. The successful applicants will be accountable to the Operations Services Group Head for all activities carried out within the Operations Services Section.
 
Applicants should be able to demonstrate the following qualities:-
 
·         proven engineering experience in the technical or operations environment
·         a proven track record of working to demanding safety standards
·         excellent interpersonal and team working skills
·         a flexible and pro-active approach to work and the ability to work independently
·         a positive attitude supporting continuous improvement
·         sound commercial awareness
·         assisting in the activities and maintain systems that fulfill the Station and Corporate objectives
·         participating in staff appraisals, training and development in line with the business needs
 
The main duties of the post are:
 
·         preparation and review of operational procedures
·         provide specialist assessment to the EC process
·         become a Senior Authorised Person (E&M and NR)
·         provide permits and specialist advice when requested
·         support outage programmes
·         production of WOC’s and PIOI’s
·         maintain stock and budget control of commodities in assigned areas
As part of career development the post holders may have the opportunity to transfer onto shifts to further develop themselves (shift allowance will be allocated accordingly).
 
Qualifications:
 
As a minimum, applicants will have a HNC (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline.  Candidates with a relevant degree may have an advantage.
 
These posts offer the opportunity to gain experience in the operation of a modern nuclear power station.  Excellent career progression opportunities exist after undergoing suitable development and training.
 
The salary range for this role is between £24908 and £53745. The starting salary for this appointment will be is likely to be within the range of £25-45K, dependent on the successful candidates existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.
 
The successful candidate is required by the company to undertake a role in the emergency scheme. This may necessitate the individual being on a standby rota. Appropriate payments in accordance with the Company Agreement will be made.

We wish to recruit a Liquid and Gaseous Radwaste Environmental Officer within the environmental function of our Safety and Technical Division. You will be an experienced professional with a proven record of delivery and passion for environmental excellence. You will have experience in the special environmental challenges that are faced by the nuclear industry and should be looking to build upon your existing environmental knowledge and experience.
 
The opportunity exists within the Environmental Risk Mitigation Group; a central support function team of environmental specialists with a primary role of supporting the company’s operating nuclear power stations to achieve excellence in all environmental areas. The work of the group is varied and includes delivery of environmental improvement projects, direct support to power stations on operational and compliance issues and the management of interfaces with key stakeholders and regulators. We promote a flexible working arrangement and you should expect to spend part of your time providing direct support to any project or work area being undertaken within the department.
 
Key responsibilities:
·   providing specialist support to both operational sites and corporate bodies on a wide range of radioactive environmental issues
·   advising and guiding on the interpretation of regulatory compliance and best practice for the management of gaseous, liquid discharges
·   advising and guiding on the interpretation of regulatory compliance and best practice for the management of secondary wastes arising from the abatement of radioactive gaseous and liquid discharges
·   supporting the Fleet Environment Manager in providing clearly communicated practical environmental performance standards for the existing nuclear fleet
·   supporting the interface with key external stakeholders and regulators including Environment Agency, Scottish Environment Protection Agency and Nuclear Installations Inspectorate
·   management of the interface between the department and a nominated power station on all environmental matters (Focus Engineer Role)
 
Essential attributes/experience:
·   significant experience in the management of radioactive gases, liquids and secondary solid wastes
·   a working understanding of the existing and emerging relevant national and international legislation 
·   experience in the selection, development and maintenance of appropriate waste management strategies
·   experience of relevant waste management technologies, plant and services
·   experience in dealing with regulators and key stakeholders
 
It is essential that you have excellent communication skills and are a strong team player. We are also looking for proven ability in task and project delivery as well as negotiating and influencing skills

Desirable attributes/experience:
·   an understanding on the non-radioactive environmental challenges of operating nuclear power plants
·   knowledge of environmental management systems
 
As a minimum, applicants will have a relevant HNC (or equivalent). Candidates with a relevant degree may have an advantage.
 
The salary range for this role is between £53745 and £63182. The starting salary will depend on experience, competence and qualifications. We offer a competitive benefits package including 28 days holiday and final salary pension scheme.
